Burg Machinery

The battery recycling division, part of Roster Ltd.

Our mission

Batteries are made from raw materials that are difficult to source and shouldn't be lost after a single life cycle. Burg Machinery's mission is to keep those critical resources — lithium, nickel, cobalt, copper and aluminium — in circulation rather than letting them become waste. We apply patented, eco-friendly recycling technologies to recover materials at the highest possible purity and the lowest possible environmental footprint, supporting a genuinely circular economy. In 2023, we redirected our full focus to lithium-ion battery recycling — the area where that contribution is needed most.

Part of Roster Ltd

Burg Machinery EOOD is a wholly owned subsidiary of Roster Ltd, which specialises in the recycling of ferrous and non-ferrous metals. The recycling of aluminium and copper parts is carried out in the mixed metal recycling plant of Roster Ltd, equipped with the latest technology from a large Italian manufacturer.

Permits

Operations are carried out under a waste treatment permit and a waste transport registration document, both issued by the Regional Inspectorate of Environment and Water. The treatment permit includes operation R4 — recycling of metals — on the battery and accumulator codes.

Why Burg Machinery

Technology, safety and a closed loop

Eco-friendly

Our eco-friendly recycling technology saves 8.1 tonnes of CO₂ per tonne of recycled batteries, compared to the primary extraction of the raw materials.

Safety

Safe storage, handling and transportation of lithium-ion batteries is our priority. Safety is ensured by specially designed packaging and discharge to 0 volts.

Efficiency

Highest purity grades due to the low-temperature process; solvents of the electrolyte and lithium can also be returned to the material cycle. Black mass at over 99% purity.

Closed loop

Burg Machinery is committed to achieving complete autonomy in the recycling of lithium-ion batteries by implementing a fully closed-loop system.
